The Area
Discover the charm and enchantment of the last remaining village in Paris. Montmartre, the highest point in Paris, is crowned by the majestic
white Sacre Coeur basilica, which looks grandly out over the entire city of lights. Behind the church and clinging to the hillside below, the
narrow winding cobblestone streets and alleyways seem almost to have survived the relentless march of time. It is easy to understand how this
magical setting served as an inspiration to the many famous artists, poets, and writers of the past as well as the present.
Location
This apartment is situated on rue Yvonne Le Tac, in the heart of Montmartre's Abbesses district and just round the corner from the famous grocery shop immortalized in
the film 'Amelie'. The reason it is named the Queens Corner is because the street was originally called Rue Antoinette, and from 1840 to 1879 Rue Marie-Antoinette, after
the former French Queen. The name Rue Yvonne Le Tac was only given to the street in 1968.
This vibrant area is alive with the sound of church bells ringing, music playing, and cafe conversations. Here you will find some of the city's most authentic and
desirable shops, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and wine and cheese merchants. Easy to miss, but well worth looking for, is Square Jehan Rictus, tucked in
adjacent to the children's carousel, and Abbesses metro. This tiny park contains a 430 sq. ft. mural covered with the words 'I Love You' in 311 language- a befitting
tribute to Amour in Paris.
The Abbesses metro station is less than one minutes walk from the front door of the apartment. From here you can connect to anywhere in Paris. A little further down
the road is Bus 95 which stops at the Opera, and at some of the most famous department stores in Paris, such as Printemps, and Galleries Lafayette. It also goes to the
Louvre, the Latin Quarter, Gare Montparnasse, and the famous flea market at Porte de Vanves. Gare du Nord is a short 10 minute walk from the apartment. From there, you
can connect to anywhere in Europe.
Among the other sights nearby are the world famous Moulin Rouge, the artists' square at Place du Tertre and the lively clubs and theatres of Place Pigalle.

Set on a corner and facing south and south west, this third floor apartment is flooded with light, as can be seen from the photo at the top of this page.
White walls, chandeliers, mirrors and pale painted furniture combine to create an ambience of simple elegance, spaciousness and charm.
The two main rooms retain period oak parquet floors and decorative plaster cornices, and there is a pretty original ceramic, Prussian stove in the bedroom.
When entering the apartment, you arrive in a hallway and the WC is immediately to your left.
Although not shown in the photos, there are shelves in the entryhall to provide a place to store suitcases as well as a coat rack to hang your outdoor wear.
Directly in front of you is the entrance to the kitchen which fills with light very easily due to the large window at one end.
The modern, bright kitchen is equipped with everything you need, should you decide to take advantage of the many wonderful local food shops and prepare a meal at home,
including a self-cleaning oven, hob, microwave and fridge/freezer.
As there are so many wonderful choices of places to shop and eat in the immediate area, you may find that you only eat breakfast or snacks in the flat.
There is also a combination washing machine/dryer under the work surface.
A little table is in the kitchen so you can sit by the window with your coffee and watch the activity at the bar opposite.
Off the hallway, to the left of the kitchen, is the door to the bedroom and the rest of the apartment.
You must walk through the bedroom to reach the salon.
The bedroom feels elegantly uncluttered with white furniture and mirrored bedside tables.
The telephone is located in this room and it allows for free long distance calls to landline numbers in a large number of countries.
Double glazing and light-proof curtains ensure that you will have a restful night in the extremely comfortable queen-sized bed.
Style and charm are evident throughout this apartment with the careful collection of furniture the owner has chosen.
A lovely example of charm that is fit for a Queen in the bedroom is the beautiful, antique mirror above the Prussian stove shown in the photos on the right of this page.
Originally, these ceramic Prussian stoves were used to heat the apartments with wooden logs, much like modern fireplaces.
Today, the apartment has electric heating which can be individually controlled in each of the rooms.
The bathroom, which is off the bedroom, is well laid out and well lit, with a modern basin and shower with a glass pivot door.
The shower stall has the advantage of having both a handheld shower mounted on the wall which you can move to use as well as a large showerhead above this.
There is also a convenient caddy for you to put your soap, shampoo or other items.
You can see the entrance door to the bathroom when you look at the photo above on the right. It is the door to the right of the fireplace.
The mirrored cabinet over the basin has deep shelves to house all your personal items and contains a hairdryer.
There is a second, wall mounted mirror to assist you when putting on make up or shaving.
The salon is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques, contemporary pieces and flea market finds.
Four long windows flanked by white curtains allow you a bird's eye view of Montmartre village life, and the table in the corner of the salon is the perfect place to
enjoy a meal while people watching.
Sitting by the windows in the sun you can choose one of two views to gaze out on as you eat - southwards down the vibrant Rue des Martyrs with its shops, bars and
cafes, or westwards along Rue Yvonne Le Tac towards the tree-lined Place des Abbesses with its Belle Epoque Metro station.
After a busy day exploring Paris you can relax on the sofa, which converts to a very comfortable double bed for extra guests.
A chest of drawers and antique armoire supply ample storage for all your clothes and belongings.
Below the Regency mirror on the chimney breast is a pretty desk with a top that lets down to provide a place to write your postcards or a work surface for your laptop,
if you are taking advantage of the high speed wireless internet access.
A bookcase holds a large and carefully chosen selection of the owner's English books, which should provide something for most tastes. On the top shelf is a range of
guide books and maps.
The Queen's Corner provides a welcoming and tranquil haven after sightseeing, and we hope you will feel it to be your home away from home.
