The Area

Away from the busy throngs around Sacre-Coeur, the Abbesses area on the slopes of Montmartre is trendy but still proudly holds to its village life.

In the evening, chic bars and cafes like Le Vrai Paris and La Fourmi are lively haunts of Parisian bobos (Bourgeois-boheme) taking in the scene. Come morning the locals reclaim the streets, to shop, have coffee and gossip. You can buy your breakfast from Le Grenier a Pain, bread suppliers to the rich and famous, or plan your day in a local cafe like Amelie's Deux Moulins on Rue Lepic.

Abbesses still retains a feel of old Paris yet has some of the most individual boutiques, cafes and restaurants in the city. You can find antique shops, galleries, hip bars and small creative boutiques, inspired by the many Montmartre based artists who came before.

Cabaret was invented on the boulevards below Abbesses. Michou, one of the best-loved performers, still runs his club on Rue des Martyrs. He can be found every evening with his friends in the Mascotte bar on rue des Abbesses. There you can hear brilliant accordion music as you sample the grises brought that day from the ports of Normandy or lunch in the brasserie itself, one of the most atmospheric in Paris.

Music and club venues abound by Boulevard de Clichy. Traditional French songs can be heard in Les Trois Baudets where Brel, Brassens, Gainsbourg and Greco made their Paris debuts. There is also live jazz in Autour de Midi-Minuit on Lepic and international bands at La Cigale which is one of the best venues in Paris.

For a peaceful interlude, you can wander the cemetery of Montmartre, just below us, where many heroes of French cultural life are buried.

Location

Our apartment is ideally located about 5 minutes walk from Metros Abbesses (line 12) and Blanche (line 2) that will take you quickly to other parts of the city. A local electric bus serves Montmartre itself while a funicular, about a 10 minutes walk away, will whisk you up to Sacre Coeur and its magnificent views of Paris. Buses from Place de Clichy run to the centre of the city. Food shopping from specialist shops in Abbesses and Lepic is three minutes away and there is a Carrefour supermarket about a 10 minutes walk south of our apartment.

We have made arrangements with a chauffeur service to provide transportation from the airport to our apartments.

You may book this service by going to our Special Services & Activities page.

On the left side of the page, close to the bottom, choose 'Car Transfer'.

ESalon view to bedroom Bedroom

This fourth floor apartment has a separate bedroom plus combined living room and dining area.

The decor has been done in a fashionable bohemian style and includes original artwork as well as copies.

When you enter the apartment, you arrive directly in the living room and dining room area and will no doubt appreciate the light that comes into this room.

This is a cosy apartment which is ideal for a couple but if you need a second sleeping space, there is a sofa for your use.

The dining table is very smart and compact.

Double bed

In the photo, it is folded in half, to take up less space.

To open it fully, simply move the table leg and flip the top open and you have a table double the original size.

This apartment is located on the upper part of rue Durantin, close to rue Lepic.

Kitchen

The street is always very quiet, regardless of which end of Durantin you are at, but it is especially peaceful here.

The kitchen, also located off of the living area, is small and compact but has all of the amenities you would need including a washing machine.

You can see a list of the kitchen amenities above.

As there are so many food shops in the area, you may find yourself simply having breakfast in the mornings and then exploring the wonderful, culinary treats in the neighbourhood.

The WC is conveniently located in a room just beside the sofa and you can see a photo at the bottom on this page.

With your back to the entry door, the bedroom is the room directly to your left.

The bedroom overlooks a quiet one-way street below (see view at top of page to the right of the section called Location) so you can sleep soundly without any noise from the street.

As this apartment has a lot of natural light, there are dark curtains you can shut in this room should you wish to wake up leisurely.

For your convenience, we have a wardrobe and chest of drawers to store your personal belongings.

Storage in salon Living area

With your back to the entry door, directly across from you is the bathroom which has a shower as well as a sink.

There is a separate heater in this room to help take the chill out of a cold morning.

Abbesses Boheme is the perfect apartment for a young couple on a budget or for those that do not mind getting a bit of exercise while walking up the stairs.

The area is marvelous to explore and we hope you will experience a bit of bohemian life on rue Durantin, in the heart of Abbesses.
